APPALACHIA: A History of Mountains and People

Perhaps history is for refined tastes or maybe it's only appealing as you get older and begin to start a family...but at any rate this documentary was entertaining as well as educational...it came on PBS 6/5/09 and I'm sure it will be playing again....so set your DVR or Tivo.

How this relates to the TNSOL blog:

The way I see it, History is like a jumbo sized connect the dots puzzle and the more lines you draw from here to there you begin to see trends...and he who controls the past controls the future and if you don't know your past then your doomed to repeat it ...ad nauseam

Here's what made me stand up and shout during the Television Program:

" By August 29, battle was fully joined. Chafin's men, though outnumbered, had the advantage of higher positions and better weaponry. Private planes were hired to drop homemade bombs on the miners. On orders from the famous General Billy Mitchell, Army bombers from Maryland were also used to disperse the miners, a rare example of Air Power being used by the federal government against US citizens."

That's right..The Federal Govt. sending troops to attack fellow Americans...Think it can't happen here in the good ole USA?! Well, it's happened before...
